I bought a prejudice your ez cartridge 4 for gba I inserted a formatted sd a fat 32 to 16 gb of space but I can not put so many games at one point but then I add games in gba displays only empty folders why is this happening?
    thank you

    • Please put the roms in the root of SD card, not a folder.

      • Virginio Vaccaro February 24, 2017 at 3:29 pm

thanks for the reply, I tried to copy the Rom in root but nothing to make me reads max 75 rom just add a new rom I displays an image of a yellow folder
        you have other suggestions ??
        thank you

      • How do I put more than 78 roms in one directory? I am placing them in the root of SD card, and still doesn’t show more than 78 roms, beginning from 79th rom, it becomes an empty folder and I can’t enter the game. Please advice. Thanks

  2. I bought this model 1month ago…
but when i started pokemon it say “the international battery has run dry ~~~”
    it can’t support RealTimeClock?

    • EZ-FLASH IV does not support RTC of pokemon, only EZ-FLASH II series supports RTC. you can use a RTC patch with the rom

  3. How can i put codes?? like pokemon emerald.

  4. I have the firmaware 1.77 and yoshi island get black screen…. why?

    • Which mode did you use? PSRAM or NORFlash? Did you patch the rom with ez4client?

      • Same problem. Rom is patched and tried using norflash and psram – seems to be affecting several games. I also have an older Ezflash iv with minisd running firmware 1.72 and the games all work perfectly on that.

edit: correction it works from norflash but not psram but why? On my old ezflash iv with version 1.72 it works with both.

        • Figured it out – hold L and then press A to start the game. This forces a hard reset and the game will work.

  5. Hi,

I have latest kernel on EZ Flash IV micro sd. With a lot of games I got a bank screen at startup.

When putting the same sd in another EZ Flash IV micro, it works fine.

Reinstalling the firmware on the faulty one does not change anything.

However, I observe that reinstalling the firmware does not erase the previous configuration as some preferences are saved (language etc…). I thus guess that the faulty file or so is not resetted when I reinstall another firmware.

My question is : is there a possibility to completely erase a firmware to start again from a clean sheet ?

    • which mode while you got the blank screen? PSRAM or NorFlash?

      • Hi, I tried both. And result is the same. As I said, on another cart, it’s working out of the box. And problem is only present with few games like the Donkey Kong series. So I want to erase all firmware installed and reinstall the latest on a “clean sheet”. Is this possible ?

        • The procedure of press R update firmware is erasing at first, then write the new firmware.

second question, the game except donkey kong series are not faulty ?

          • No there are other games which do not work. I’ll provide you with a list this evening.

As I said, after the firmware upgrade, some settings are kept (like language preference). Hence I think that some configurations are not erased while updating the firmware.

            • So here’s the result of my testing (v.1770) :
              – DK : white screen after Game Boy logo
              – Super Mario Advance : white screen after Game Boy logo
              – Zelda a llink to the Past : white screen after Game Boy logo
              – Pokemon Leaf Green and Fire Red : white screen after Game Boy logo
              – NES Classic Pacman : OK
              – NES Classic Bomberman : OK
              – NES Classic Zelda 1 and 2 : OK
              – NES Classic Super Mario Bros : Not OK, black screen

          • Here below I provided you with my test results.

  6. Hey guys, im new to EZ flash hardware and software and will be buying one soon. But i have a question that is a little off topic and am hoping the experts out there might be able to help me. I’m wondering if there is any hardware and software like the EZ flash for the Playstation one ie a memory card that i could load up with playable Roms. Any point in the right direction would be much appreciated. Thankyou.

  7. Hope you can help.
I am using a ez flash iv on a DS.
I have applied ezfla_up.bin. When I put the cartridge in and hold down R it successfully updates.
this proves the cartidge works and it can read the micro sd i have.

I then put a game on using the EZ4 client.

The cartridge then only shows a black screen in the ds.
If i put the cartridge in without and SD it tells me cant find disk.

why do i get a black screen when i have th sd card in?

  8. Hi,

In my comment here below I provided you with the input you required from me.

Can you have a look and keep me updated on how I can troubleshoot my issue ?

  9. My problem (blank / white screen at game start) is now +/- solved.
It was not a software, firmware, roms, patching or even card issue.
It was a product assembly issue. After some reading on the Internet, I tried the “paper trick”.
It somehow improved the situation where more games where launching. Only 2 were still causing issues.
So I tried to add some paper layer / remove some / … and mitigated results. After 1 hour of trial and error I found the correct “thickness” fixing the issue.
So, root cause = poor assembly and inexistant quality control.

  11. Can you run gameboy classic or color games on Ez flash 4?

    • yes but only buy emulation and the emulation is not that good and the emulator is not made by ez flash

      • I tried using goomba color, but a lot of games don’t work, do you know any other emulation?

    Hi,
What about problem in the picture?
    Latest version of EZ-Flash 4.
It occurs every time (very rarely works ok) I power on console – there are 2 nag screens – attached.
I also tested the battery – perfectly fine – 3.2V.
Saving works but worst is that everything that was in stored in nor memory is titled with Chinese and does not want to load up…
This started for me on 1.77 firmware then I tried downgrading to 1.76 (same crap). Now I am on 1.78 and same story…

    Thanx for help 🙂

    • it seems the solder point of the battery was broken. please try to test if you have the electronic meter

      • Wojciech Szczetyński May 8, 2017 at 11:32 am

First I though that – If it be like You are writing it would not keep the save / it would not be saving.
Visual and “by hand” inspection did not indicate any problem, there was no obvious loose connection. Then I took multi-meter and started “playing” with it around pcb to find where traces from battery goes. Suddenly when measuring directly on battery solder points to pcb I got 0V ;]
And there we have it cold joint… Sometimes working sometimes not, but why saving was in general working???

The problem was that battery pins (“metal legs”) were not pre-tinned. Not doing it result in bad connection/soldering. BTW soldering was also crappy there, too much of it – no pro.
Desoldered battery, remove old tin with soldering wick. Scrapped a little bit battery “legs” with file, pre-tinned it and soldered to pcb and voila 🙂 working.

BTW I bought it from Aus reseller and he got many of negative comments on this product so it looks like bad batch…

Big thnx 4 pro help 🙂

  14. is there a official guide pdf o document for use of ez flash iv? thanks

    • Jonas Venture July 17, 2017 at 2:09 pm

Not that I see, but the new Kernel is really easy to use. Format a new SD card to FAT15/FAT32 then drag and drop the latest kernel under their downloads into it on your computer. Plug it into the EZ Flash IV, then put it in the GBA and hold R and turn it on. If the SD card works, then you’ll see the Kernel begin to load. After that you should see the base menu. Reset to test that it works. Then put the SD card back into your computer and drag and drop roms into whatever file structure you want. It just got updated so compatibility lists are still incomplete but here is a thread on the topic for version 2 and up. https://gbatemp.net/threads/compatibility-list-for-ez-flash-4-in-2-0-and-up.474641/

It should still have the compatibility from earlier kernels so the 1.78 compatibility list is more complete. These should all still work. https://gbatemp.net/threads/compatibility-list-for-ez-flash-4.469826/

  15. There is a problem with carts revision 0217 🙁

Either the NOR is damaged or there is a problem with the new revision concerning NOR which needs to be fixed in a firmware update.

Mother 3 does not work – it copies to NOR fine but when you try and run the game, it gets as far as the GAMEBOY PLAYER logo screen and then crashes to a white screen with lots of noise.
For a video of what happens, see: http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=43628528947986895835

    Unpatched ROM MD5: af8b0b175f7ec8914cb87b3161ba1aaa

The ROM has been patched correctly with EZ4_20140306 ( only the Save Patch checkbox option, leave the reset patch unchecked.)

    Patched ROM MD5: b044de4106b0f296d34a46a869872233

If this is a firmware issue, rather than faulty NOR chips then please could there be an update to fix this.

The game works fine on other revisions (for example ‘rev 1316’ and ‘rev 2516).

    Thanks!

    • I tested the mother 3 game, patched rom MD5(MOTHER3.gba)= 5552815787e5983af6b40253e34e9d5,file size 33,554,432 bytes , it works well.
the rom is japanese version with chinese translation. and the card rev is 0217.

      • Could you please test with the original Japanese ROM that I stated above?

Meanwhile, I will search for the Chinese fan translation to test.
Is the md5 you listed that of that of the fan translation or when the ROM has been patched via EZ4_20140306 ?

        Thank you

        • Your can contact your dealer for a replacement, or contact us directly.

          • are you working on a fix or is it not possible?

          • Hi – I contacted you directly (on gbatemp forum) about sending the faulty cartridge back and getting a replacement.

I posted on friday but have had no confirmation from you about sending a replacement and no confirmation that you have read my PM for details for postage & cost.

What is the best way to contact you?

        • I also tested this and same issue… md5 is exactly same as what he said but mine crash also. Surely its a hardware issue?

      • OK, I tested with the Chinese fan translation that you mentioned (for anyone else reading, they list the save-patched md5 hash).

Unfortunately I still get the same issue, as seen in the video in my original post.

I would suggest that this means my cart has a faulty NOR chip with bad sectors, what do you think?

Please could you increase the quality control of the NOR chips, as I have seen two others with this exact same issue with this game and many others with other NOR corruption issues.

Hi. At me here what problem. Run my GBA with EZ flash installed. Gameboy
starts fine, there is a window Item describe and nothing more. After a
few seconds the screen is covered with black stripes. Use a micro sd flash
drive of 1 Gb, game patch, but nothing helps. Is it a malfunction?

    • This issue is microsd card did not be detected. Please check the microsd card format, FAT16/FAT32 are acceptable.

or change another microsd for a try.

      • Thanks for the advice! Still the problem was the micro sd. Was replaced by another and everything worked as it should.

        • Hi I have this exact same issue!
I have an EZ Flash IV MiniSD with MicroSD adapter.
I will replace the MicroSD card with a different one and see if that helps!!

  17. Mother 3 issue, can you tell me the Chinese Rom file you used to get it working on ez flash 4… the jap/eng fail… and I’d like to compare the difference in the chinese rom to apply any fix to the eng .

  18. Harunowa Winterfield June 9, 2017 at 5:12 pm

Hey does it work with MicroSD cards or only with MicroSDHC?

    • Jonas Venture July 17, 2017 at 2:03 pm

The new black one does work with both and up to 32 GB. Even the old EZ Flash 4 (The white one that used miniSD) benefits a lot from the new v2 and up Kernel. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I think the old white EZ Flash 4 is supposed to support up to 32 GB now as well, but it’s more picky about the specific card. I can’t find a specific list of compatible cards larger than 2 GB for the original EZF4.

  19. Hagan Algo Mas Util June 11, 2017 at 11:05 pm

Hey is the new 2.0 valid for my r4i gold?

  20. Updated to latest kernal, deleted all my roms on my sd card, including the SAVER folder and start fresh. How does the save file created? After a game has been played, then restart for the save file to be created? Example of first game I tried, Advance GT2 (J), when I exit game, no save file is created. When in game, when I select SAVE, I get following error. ERROR, EEPROM WRITE 49153. What does this mean? I havn’t tested another game yet to see if I get the same message.

  21. Why can’t the EZ Flash IV run on the GBA (not DS) not directly GBC and GB Roms? The GBA is directly compatible to run GBC and GB Games without Emulation! See original Nintendo FAQ about GBA. So it should be possible on the GBA with Flashcard to load and run directly GBA, GC and GB Roms!

    • I understand your demand, it means you need a product not only a GBA flash card also a GB/GBC flash card. But the EZ-FLASH IV’s main control chip is insufficient to meets the requirement. the product which meets your demand maybe reveal in future time, but not now.

      • Thanks for the fast answer! You could made a multiboot Flashcard, which can (re-) Boot into NDS/3DS, GBA, GBC and GB Mode. In this Way ONE Flashcard can play, without Emulation: [3DS, with Passme EG) NDS, GBA, GBC and GB Roms. I would buy it…

        • Yes it would be nice if EZ-Flash IV had some sort of switchable bios that tricks the cart into thinking it’s a GB/GBC that would be extra nice to play GB/GBC games on the GBA/DS.

Your next best thing and it’s expensive is the EverDrive GB card. I didn’t have this card but I had something a little different back in the very old days and I still have it, google this “GB Bridge Flash2Advance”.

  22. So I’m wondering if i have a fake EZ-Flash IV cart could someone be able to verify? Ever since I got it I thought it felt a little dodgy… mainly by the fact one of the capacitors just randomly fell out… top side just above the battery https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/7c630c9500ec977b660cadc122a8d328010789fb8ea9fc905a8cb0c98a179f7f.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/c783ff9eb95a6b8315fc0d1e6045a0949643827c649fac0168a65e8f64675292.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/1f0e60b172b944213594fbf83d70e08974d3f58f2d7355fada1ef42c74a80b82.jpg

Hi. I have the EZ Flash IV. I use the latest Kernel(updaten with R by Starting the GBA) and Client. I copy the roms with Client.
And it copy the game and a saver folder with the save data game.
Example: I Play yugioh worldwide Edition everything is ok. Turn Off and turn on I can start on my last safe.
Now I am playing Wario Land 4 (automatic safe), restart the game and the safe file in the Game is deleted.
Turn Off and Start yugioh and no safe file.
    Can you help? Please.

How to skip the proccesing part after an already processed rom? it seems that it processes it every time I start the rom.
Pressing “L” on various times doesn’t help.

  26. Is mother 3 supposed to be working now? It still hangs after the Gameboy player logo for me.

  27. same problem with mother 3 here. tried everything, japanese, chinese, english versions. none works. it crashes after the gameboy player logo.

will the ez flash IV ever support non-sdhc cards again in the future? I have a 2 gigabyte mini sd card lying around that I really want to use for my old white ezflash IV.. I heard that newer kernel releases broke compatibility with old sd cards.. I’m using a 4 gigabyte micro sdhc + adapter at the moment but a dedicated mini sd card option would be better for white version ez flash IV users like myself.. thanks..

    • please read the upgrade notice above.

      • Lou Allet Divina August 4, 2017 at 7:56 am

thanks for the reply.. I already upgraded my ez flash kernel to 2.03.. does that mean I can now replace my micro sdhc + adapter with my old 2 gigabyte mini sd (non-sdhc) card? last time I used it I guess it was version 1.75, the moment i turned on my gameboy and already on the ezflash main menu, the screen suddenly goes to a black screen.. and when I switched to my micro sd card, the problem went away..

        • sadly. I can’t find a 2gig sd card to reproduce your issue. please format your miniSD with FAT32 and give a try. and you have to format it back to FAT16 to upgrade if a new kernel released.

          • Lou Allet Divina August 4, 2017 at 8:22 am

i understand.. sure, i will be giving it a try later.. and i’ll get back to you to let you know of the results.. thanks again for the prompt response!

here’s an update.. i tried formatting my 2 gig mini sd card to fat 32.. copied everything from my 4gig micro sd onto the mini sd.. after placing the mini sd inside the ez flash and launching it from my gameboy, the issue remains the same: the gameboy screen shows the ez flash wallpaper and then slowly transitions to a black screen.. it seems that newer kernel releases really are incompatible with older sd cards that are not sdhc format.. but anyway, that’s fine..

i know it’s a long shot but i really am hoping that future kernel releases will be compatible again with non-sdhc format cards.. i may just have to stick with my micro sd and adapter setup for now.. thanks..

  30. ¿where can i buy this in spain?

  31. Hi, I have a white cartridge version in Kernel 1.75.
Is my cartridge compatible with kernel update 2.03?
    Thanks

  32. Does this save your game for instance pokemon?

  33. Hello, I recently tried for the first tim my EZ Flash IV, but I can’t get it to work.
First, I followed the quick manual I found on the downloads section to update the kernel (I tried with two different microSD cards), but I got the following message: “find_ezfla_up.bin,updating fat initial 1”.
Then, I inserted the flashcart without an SD card and it started but then the screen “melted” and turned black.
Now the GBA does not recognise the cart no matter what SD card I use, I can’t get past the screen with Game Boy logo (no Nintendo logo).
Do you have any idea what the problem might be? Is there any solution?
    Thanks

  34. Hello All!!!

I have just bought a Nintendo DS (DS Fat ) and I’m trying to use my Old EZ-Flash IV (white version with Mini SD) and it loads the “Gameboy” logo and sound but then it goes black. Can you tell me how to fix this? I’d really appreciate it!!!

  35. Ok everyone…I’d love some help here if possible. I’ve got the new (black) Ez Flash IV…newest kernel (2.03). The GBA roms all play well, no issues. I’m trying to play Gameboy and Gameboy Color roms. I’ve got the Goomba Color program, I’ve compiled sets of games…but I’m wondering if there’s an easier way? Can I fire up an emulator from within the system, the way I’d choose a GBA rom, and use IT to play GB/GBC roms? Thanks for any help.

    • Iek Younger (yieks) January 8, 2018 at 12:29 am

If you compile a single GB or GBC rom, using Goomba or Gomoba Color, the game runs like normal. It’s only when you compile multiple roms together into one that you have to pick one whenever you fire it up.

  36. Recently got the black Ez Flash IV, kernel 2.03. The cartridge works, but often freezes with random noise. Cycling power often doesn’t help, reinserting helps most of the time. I tried to clean the contacts, tried the paper trick fix – doesn’t feel like a huge difference, still freezes happen quite often (once an hour or so). I am not sure that it’s the dirty/loose contacts problem. What can I do to get stable operation?

  37. i bought this a while back, but i came across a couple problems,

1: clueless on how to upload cheats to it, because a lot of rom devices supports cheats and i simply dont know if it supports cheats, but if it does then i would like to know how

2: “Pokemon Light Platinum” doesnt work at all, the gameboy logo will appear and then i get a black screen,

if you want to know where you can find Pokemon Light Platinum rom then here is the website for it http://pokemonlightplatinum.com/download-pokemon-light-platinum-rom

  38. Are there fake EZ-FLASH IV’s out there? If so how do I tell if I buy one if it’s real or faked? Any real dealers in the usa?

  39. Mother 3 not working… it crashes after gameboy player logo.
